917 RCR BUILD

Hi my name is Rick Moe. I have been a professional Porsche mechanic for 50 years. As a gift to myself for surviving in this crazy Porsche world..I bought a 917RCR from Race Car Replicas in Fraser, Michigan. I purchased as a rough kit and hope to chronicle the build as it goes along. Grew up in a VW driving family, so Porsche was always a dream car. Saw the movie LeMans in 1971 and that forever cemented in my mind the 917K as the ultimate Porsche. Following year I purchased my first Porsche, a 1971 914 1.7. Loaded it with all I owned, not much, and drove it out to California. I had talked my way into the Volkswagen/Audi/Porsche pre-employment school, which was designed to move VW/Audi dealer mechanics into the Porsche franchises. Following school I found employment at Bill Yates VW/Porsche as a Porsche mechanic. With a Midwestern work ethic and a lot of interest, I set out to learn everything I could about the Porsche brand. After a number of years I moved on to an independent shop up in Costa Mesa. I married my Minnesota girlfriend and made the move back home. Opened my own shop in 1977…and it’s been a long wild trip. I currently spend my days as the curator for a private Porsche collection. Collection is comprised of 356’s, dating from 1954-1965. At any time I have 1-3 cars in complete restoration. Needless to say, I have plenty to do. By the way I still have my original 914, I am doing a complete refurbish and converting it into a 6 cylinder GT hot rod. May have to chronicle that sometime. Enough about me…lets get on with the main event…917RCR
